The story is a bit long but I promise I will reach the point eventually.
On the day I first came to Matera, a mysterious southern Italian town, I was invited to a house party held by a Dutch artist Caspar. He hosted me for some nights even though that was not planned (my host was one of his friends) but my foot hurt so much and I was unable to walk (you can find more about the injury in “Under reconstruction”). At that time, Caspar was dating a terribly jealous Italian girl.
A year later, I visited Matera again. I decided to give it a try and find Caspar’s place – I remembered his door was always wide opened. And it was! I entered and Caspar immediately recognized me. We had a nice chit-chat and meanwhile it started raining outside. I went to the centre to wait for my host but he did not appear. Caspar saw me standing outside in the rain and invited me to spend a night at his place.
Later on, his new girlfriend came round and I fell in love with that creature in an instant. She was unlike any Italian girl I had met – open-minded, cheerful, ambitious, and eager to travel. When I saw them together, such a lovely couple, I was so happy they had found each other.
The following morning I lifted my butt from the sofa and left Caspar and his girlfriend this drawing. Hope they are happy :-)
